#482 - Belgian Martini

#482 Belgian made Martini short rifleIt has a 30 ¼ inch barrel with a mark IV martini style ramp front sight and mark IV type fore stock attachment and British Martini style rear sight. Actually, in all respects, this looks like a cadet size mark IV Martini-Henry. The metal parts have been cleaned, but badly and the rifle could certainly use some competent attention. The breech block and barrel markings sport appropriate Belgian proofs and the right side of the receiver shows a very nice manufacturers crest marking (Eagle with “A” “G” embossed on the wings). Most interestingly, the rifling appears to be Metford, and the rifle certainly could be chambered in .303 British, however, I don’t have any sample cartridges and have been unable to check. Overall it is larger than a Martini-Enfield carbine but smaller than a Martini-Enfield rifle.
