#614 Remington Rolling Block Carbine..This is an original and correct in every respect Remington rolling block carbine, including the proper fore guard with band retainer spring on the underneath, carbine rear sight, correct sling swivel and all additional parts. It is well marked and markings are fully legible. The carbine is in full blue but may well have been re-blued as it is awfully nice. However, so is the overall condition. Rolling block carbines are not common and it is unusual to find one in this nice condition.Regarding the bore: I find it very difficult to describe a bore condition like this one. It is shinny, has good lands and grooves, sharp edges, and nothing significant. However, neither is it perfect. There are several areas where the surface is not smooth. No obvious pitting, nothing deep, nothing that is like a hole or "corrosion" but some areas where maybe it wasn't taken care of all that well. Almost like some parts of it are "wavy." Would it shoot? Oh yeah. No reason that it shouldn't shoot very well. But it may well lead up faster than, say, one of those near-perfect Argentine or Danish Rolling Blocks. It's pretty nice, but it's not flawless. (Still, these are not easy to find carbines, in any condition at all.)NOTE: I've looked at this carbine again closely and it does indeed look gorgeous, however I believe that it has in fact been re-blued. It looks a LOT like the M1879 Argentine re-arsenaled rifles of the 1960s and I suppose that it could have been imported with those. (See the Argentine Rolling Blocks for sale listed here for an idea). The carbine is all correct vis-a-vis parts, wood, completeness, etc, but I think that the finish is 20th century, not 19th century.
