#662 - Swiss Vetterli M1871

#662 Swiss Vetterli M1871Other than the VAUD marked barrel, this is a pretty typical M1871 Swiss Vetterli rifle with blue turned to plum and quite a bit of patina on the receiver and other metal parts. However, there is no rust or corrosion anywhere and all metal parts are in good serviceable condition and the stock is solid and sound with no cracks and very few handling marks except for some areas of gauging at the toe of the butt stock. With conversion to center-fire, this rifle would make an excellent shooter as the action is crisp and tight, trigger pull is decent, the bore is excellent and it still mounts its original cleaning rod. A good representative example of the M1871 Swiss Vetterli for collector or potential shooter.I have never seen a VAUD marking on a Vetterli barrel. This could signify a SIG subcontractor, or it might have been a cantonal-owned rifle (rather than federally-issued). Vaud (French pronunciation: [vo]) is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland (comparable to the various states of the United States) and is located in Romandy, in the southwestern part of the country. An unusual, but straight and original Swiss Vetterli
