#682 - German M1871/84 Mauser

#682 German M1871/84 MauserThis is a nice respectable Mauser with a lot of potential. The rifle is very solid and sound mechanically and it has an absolutely beautiful bore. This rifle might be worth a serious restoration. There is no real bluing left, although most of the rifle carries a very nice, smooth, even patina. There is some old light rust/pitting on the stacking swivel and magazine tube cover. There is a very small amount of “orange peel” on the right side of the rear sight and the barrel around the rear sight as well as on the lower barrel band clip. Otherwise, the metal is very smooth and would likely re-polish very well. The wood is dark, showing a few light handling marks but nothing serious anywhere. Additionally note that the stacking rod is slightly bent and will have to be carefully straightened. This rifle is complete, including the magazine tube, spring and follower as well as the bolt stop screw and stop ring, and appears to be all matching except for a different number on the butt plate which does carry regimental markings, but faint. The rifle functions perfectly including the magazine cut off lever and lifter spoon in both positions. (Note that the 71/84 was one of the few rifles of the period that was not issued with its own cleaning rod.) A nice condition, hard to find, all original early German Mauser that is solid and should make a fine shooter and is certainly some effort to restore.
