#697 - Nepalese Westly Richards Gehendra

#697 Nepalese Westly Richards Gehendra..The Nepalese Gehendra is an especially scarce Peabody droping block derivative that incorporates not a coiled-spring striker the way that a Martini does but rather a flat spring powered hammer housed completely within the receiver based an early Westly Richards design. While heavily influenced by the British Martini-Henry, the Gehendra is a unique indigenous Nepalese design. Although IMI has imported a number of them in the last few year, that was the remaining quantity and this rifle in any decent condition will never be less than scarce. This particular example has strong blue turning to plum throughout, with no rust or pitting evident anywhere, including the butt plate and with wood showing only a few handling marks (see photos). It does have chip of wood missing at the cleaning rod stop on the right side of the forestock (see photos). The rifle functions perfectly with a solid action and the .577-.450 Martini-Henry chambered barrel with its Henry rifling remains in excellent conditions. This rifle functions well and displays even better. A very scarce Martini type variant.
